Dr Rami Tawil

Senior Chiropractor, Partner · Wellbeing Chiropractic Melton & South Morang

I’m Dr Rami Tawil, practice partner at Wellbeing Chiropractic and Senior Chiropractor across our Melton and South Morang clinics, in practice since 2010 and consulting in English or Arabic. My first job out of the RMIT Masters was country Victoria, where wide caseloads and direct questions teach a young practitioner to explain clearly, and postgraduate study in functional neurology later reshaped how I assess. Pain, stiffness, a body that has stopped keeping up, they all get the same start: careful history and examination before anything is treated. After that we talk it through properly and build a plan you are part of.

What I see most weeks in Melton & South Morang

Headaches that keep coming back

You’ve tried massage and a dark room, and they keep returning. Recurring headaches are a big part of why I trained in functional neurology, which looks at how the neck and nervous system are working together rather than only at the spot that hurts.

A heavy knock at local footy

A marking contest, an awkward landing, and a neck that still feels wrong days later. Sideline hours at club and national level taught me one rule: a neck that’s taken a knock gets a full assessment before it gets any adjustment.

Pelvic pain in late pregnancy

Pelvic girdle and lower back pain in the last stretch of pregnancy, when sleep is already hard to come by. I’m Webster trained, and every part of the visit adapts to your stage, from positioning through to how much force is used.

None of these three need the same care, and that’s the point of assessing before adjusting. Melton and South Morang are growing areas full of young families and local sport, so the caseload here is genuinely mixed. The order never changes though. A proper history, a hands-on and neurological assessment, then a plain-English explanation of what I think is going on before we make any decisions together. And if what I find belongs with your GP or another practitioner, I’ll say so and refer you on.

A country start & a neurology lens

I’m an RMIT alumnus. My first job out of my Masters was in country Victoria with the Todd’s Chiropractic group, and I’d recommend a country start to any new graduate. You see a wide caseload early, and you learn to explain yourself clearly, because country patients ask direct questions and expect direct answers. The turning point in how I practise was postgraduate study in functional neurology through the Carrick Institute. It moved my attention from where a problem shows up to how the nervous system is producing it, and that lens now sits under everything I do, from headache presentations to upper cervical work. Sport has been the other constant. I’ve spent several hundred hours working with footballers, in the Gippsland league and with the Palestinian women’s national soccer team. Today I’m a senior chiropractor and partner at Wellbeing Chiropractic, working across our Melton and South Morang clinics. I consult in English and Arabic, and plenty of appointments run in both at once. Outside the clinic I like being outdoors and staying active, and my ideal evening involves my family, a crime novel and some sport on in the background.

Assessment before adjustment, always

A first visit with me is mostly detective work. I take a detailed history, then assess how you move, balance and coordinate, because the place that hurts and the reason it hurts are often two different addresses. Before anything else happens you’ll hear my read on what’s going on, in plain terms, and we’ll decide on a care plan together. If I don’t think chiropractic is the right tool for your presentation, I’ll tell you that too.

Having a wide set of techniques matters at that point. Diversified manual adjusting suits many adults. Low-force options like Activator, SOT and Atlas Orthogonal work tend to suit children, pregnant patients and anyone wary of being adjusted. The technique gets chosen to fit the person, never the other way around.

“Settling the symptom is half the job. Working out why it turned up is the other half.”

How I work in the treatment room

Functional neurology

Postgraduate training through the Carrick Institute. I use assessments of balance, eye movement and coordination to understand how your nervous system is driving a problem, and to guide what we do about it.

Diversified adjusting

The classic manual adjusting approach and still my starting point for many adults. Specific, controlled and always explained before it happens.

Activator & SOT

Low-force options for people who need or prefer a gentler style of care. The Activator instrument and SOT blocks let me work precisely without strong manual adjusting.

Upper cervical & Atlas Orthogonal

Precise, low-force care focused on the top of the neck. Atlas Orthogonal work is a special interest of mine and pairs naturally with the functional neurology side of my practice.

Pregnancy & paediatric care

Webster technique through pregnancy, and gentle, modified approaches for children. Positioning, pressure and pace all change with age and stage.

Questions patients ask

Yes. I’m fluent in both Arabic and English and happy to run the appointment in either, or switch between the two. Plenty of families around Melton and South Morang bring a parent or grandparent along, and it makes a real difference when they can describe their pain in the language they think in.

Yes, at both clinics. I’m registered with all the major health insurance funds and claims go through our HICAPS terminals on the spot, so where your extras cover includes chiropractic you pay only the gap. Bring your card and reception will run it through after your appointment.

It’s an approach to assessing how the nervous system is controlling movement, balance and coordination. In practice that means I might check things like eye movements and balance alongside a standard chiropractic examination, particularly for recurring headaches and neck-related presentations. I trained through the Carrick Institute, and it’s not a substitute for medical neurology. If your assessment suggests you need a neurologist, that referral happens first.

Quite a lot, and it should. I’m trained in the Webster technique, so positioning and force are adapted to your stage of pregnancy, and low-force options do most of the work. I’ll also flag anything that belongs with your GP, obstetrician or midwife rather than with me.

No referral is needed to book as a private patient at either clinic. Bring any scans or reports you have, and if you have none, that’s fine. The first visit is built around a thorough history and assessment either way.
