Dr Benson (Jian Bing) Chin

Chiropractor · Wellbeing Chiropractic Newstead

I’m Dr Benson Chin, an AHPRA registered chiropractor at our Newstead clinic on Doggett Street. My full name is Jian Bing Chin, but everyone calls me Benson, and my training runs a Bachelor of Science (Chiropractic) into a Master of Clinical Chiropractic. Pain or stiffness might be what gets you in the door, or you might want your body handling more than it currently can, and either way I want the full picture first: history, thorough examination, then a plan you understand before you leave. Day to day my interests sit across diversified adjusting, sports presentations and rehabilitation, which suits a suburb as active as this one.

Can I keep training on this?

The niggle at kilometre four

You’re building toward a fun run and the calf tightens at the same point on the riverfront path every time. Backing off for a week hasn’t fixed it, and neither has stretching.

The Monday after touch footy

First season back after a few years off. The game itself feels great. The next two days don’t, and your lower back is doing most of the complaining.

The rehab that stalled

An old injury, a printed exercise sheet, and no idea if you should be adding load or backing off. Progress flatlined weeks ago and motivation is going with it.

Most people who come to see me in Newstead are trying to stay active, not become athletes. They run the riverfront path before work or play something social midweek, and a fair few are partway through rehab from an old injury, unsure what the next step should be. A niggle gets trained around for a month or two, then it starts dictating terms. My job at that point is a careful assessment: working out what the tissue is doing and how much load it can realistically take right now. From there we sort out what has to change so you can keep moving while things settle.

Who you’ll be seeing at Newstead

I’m Dr Benson Chin (Chiropractor), based at our Newstead clinic on Doggett Street. My full name is Jian Bing Chin, but everyone calls me Benson. My training is a Bachelor of Science (Chiropractic) followed by a Master of Clinical Chiropractic. Day to day, my interests sit across diversified adjusting, sports presentations and rehabilitation. That mix suits Newstead. A lot of this suburb is out on the river path early or playing something after work, and those are exactly the problems I like working on. The part of this job I genuinely love is watching progress happen. Not the dramatic version, the steady one: a patient moving a little better each visit. Seeing people improve and head toward better health is the whole reason I turn up.

First visit, start to finish

Your first visit starts with a conversation and a movement assessment. I want to understand what the problem does across a normal week, not only how it behaves on the table. Where adjusting is indicated, I use diversified techniques, and I’ll talk you through each step before it happens.

The second half of the plan matters as much to me. That means rehab exercises matched to what you can actually manage, plus small changes to the habits feeding the problem in the first place. The adjustment does its work in the room. The exercises and habits do theirs everywhere else.

“The appointment I work toward is the one where we talk about your next run instead of your back.”

How I work in the treatment room

Diversified adjusting

Hands-on adjusting done the traditional way. Specific, brief and applied only where the assessment says it will help.

Sports-focused care

Care built around your sport and its demands, from managing a niggle mid-season to planning a sensible return after time away.

Rehabilitation exercise

Graded exercises matched to what you can manage, progressed as you do, alongside practical habit changes for all the hours I don’t see you.

Questions patients ask

Yes. Newstead puts claims through HICAPS on the spot for all major health insurance funds, provided your extras cover includes chiropractic. Bring your card and it’s processed before you leave.

Usually not, and I’d rather not park you on the couch without a good reason. After an assessment I can generally tell you what you can keep doing and what needs modifying for a while. Complete rest is occasionally the right call, but it’s the last one I reach for.

Almost certainly. Rehab exercises and habit change carry a lot of the load in my care plans. I keep the list short and specific, and we build on it as you improve.

No. Chiropractors are primary contact practitioners in Australia, so you can book directly. If your presentation needs another practitioner’s input, I’ll say so and help arrange it.

We talk through your history, then I run a movement assessment to understand your presentation. If it’s appropriate to start care that day, I will, and you’ll leave knowing what I found and what the plan is.
