Dr Saif Al-Ashi

Chiropractor · Wellbeing Chiropractic Wallan

I’m Dr Saif Al-Ashi, chiropractor at our Wallan clinic, consulting in English or Arabic. I took the long road here, a Bachelor of Biomedical Science at La Trobe first, then RMIT’s double degree in health science and chiropractic, and three degrees sounds excessive until someone asks exactly why their leg tingles when their back hurts. The part of this work I find most rewarding is watching someone stop chasing relief appointment to appointment and start understanding their own body, how it responds to load, how well it can adapt. Care plans here get built around your real life, and you stop being a passenger in your own recovery.

Common presentations at our Wallan clinic

The Hume commute

An hour behind the wheel each way, and by the time you’re back past Beveridge your lower back has set like concrete. Stretching in the driveway helps for about ten minutes.

The one-hip toddler carry

Car seats, prams, a child who only wants to be held on your left. New parents around Wallan’s estates load one side of their body all day, and eventually it answers back.

Saturday sport, Monday stiffness

You felt fine at the final siren. Monday morning is when the back or hamstring tightness announces itself, and it seems to hang around a little longer each season.

These three arrive at the clinic looking nothing alike, but they share one thing: by the time someone books, they want the pain gone, full stop. Fair enough. My job starts one step earlier, working out what sits underneath the symptoms, because a commuter’s back and a new parent’s back can hurt in exactly the same spot for completely different reasons. The plan has to fit the cause, not the symptom alone.

The science came first

I took the long road into chiropractic. First a Bachelor of Biomedical Science at La Trobe University, finished in 2020, then the double degree at RMIT, a Bachelor of Health Science alongside a Bachelor of Applied Science (Chiropractic), both completed in 2025. Three degrees sounds excessive until someone asks you exactly why their leg tingles when their back hurts. Then that grounding is precisely what you reach for.

The part of this work I find most rewarding is watching someone move past chasing relief appointment to appointment. When a patient starts to understand their own body, how it responds to load and how well it can adapt, something shifts. They stop being a passenger in their own recovery. That’s what I’m aiming for with every care plan I write.

Away from the clinic I’m a dad, which is its own education in lifting awkward loads at short notice. I consult in Arabic as well as English, and I’m a member of the Australian Chiropractors Association. You’ll find me at Wellbeing Chiropractic Wallan.

How I run a first visit

The first visit is mostly about understanding. I take a proper history, assess how you move and where things are loading, then explain what I think is driving your symptoms in language that makes sense. From there the two of us shape a care plan that fits. I use Diversified adjusting and the Activator instrument, and I match the approach to your presentation and your preference, not the other way around.

What I care about most is what happens after the pain settles. Relief matters, but I’d rather you leave understanding your body and confident in how it handles load, so you can get back to the things that made you book in the first place.

“As a father myself, I know life doesn’t slow down when you’re in pain.”

How I work in the treatment room

Diversified

The hands-on adjusting most patients arrive expecting. Specific, controlled movements applied to joints that aren’t moving as they should, guided by what your assessment shows.

Activator

A compact instrument that taps with a light, precise impulse. Useful when a lower-force option suits your presentation better, or when you’d prefer a gentler style of care.

Questions patients ask

Yes. I consult in Arabic as well as English, so you can describe your symptoms and ask questions in whichever of the two languages suits you best in. That matters more than people expect, especially when we’re working through an assessment or talking over a care plan.

There is. I use two main approaches: Diversified, which is hands-on adjusting, and Activator, a tool that taps in a very light, targeted impulse. If manual adjusting doesn’t suit your presentation, or you’d rather not be adjusted by hand, Activator lets us work at a much lower force. Nothing happens without you understanding it and agreeing to it first.

The Wallan clinic has HICAPS, so you can claim on the spot from all major funds provided your extras cover includes chiropractic, and the gap goes on your card. Bring your fund card, and check your level of cover beforehand if you’re not sure what it includes.

I start with a conversation about your history and what’s been going on, then a physical assessment: how you move, where things are restricted, what reproduces your symptoms. I’ll explain what I find in plain language and we’ll agree on a care plan together. In most cases there’s time for treatment on the first visit too, once you’re comfortable with the plan.

No referral needed. Chiropractors are registered primary healthcare practitioners, so you can book straight in. If your assessment points somewhere better suited by imaging, your GP or a different clinician, I’ll tell you directly and help organise the next step.
