Abanoub (Aba) Soryal

AMS Podiatry·Podiatrist

I’m Abanoub Soryal, Aba to most people, the podiatrist behind AMS Podiatry and an AHPRA registered practitioner working from Wellbeing Chiropractic Castle Hill six days a week. I graduated with a Bachelor of Podiatric Medicine with Honours from Western Sydney University, where my research looked at soft tissue changes in the diabetic foot, and I have practised for seven years since. Foot and heel pain, gait and orthotics, ingrown toenails and diabetic foot care are where I spend most of my time.

What walks into the Castle Hill room

Heel, arch & foot pain

Musculoskeletal and biomechanical problems are my main interest. Assessment covers how you walk and how your foot sits, then the options are laid out plainly, from footwear changes to custom orthotics.

Ingrown toenails

Conservative care first, and nail surgery in the clinic when an ingrown nail keeps coming back.

Diabetes & the foot

My honours research was on the diabetic foot, so diabetic foot assessments and ongoing care get particular attention, including for DVA and aged care clients.

AMS Podiatry is set up so one clinic can cover most of what feet need: general skin and nail care, corns and calluses, fungal nails and plantar warts, bunion and foot posture assessments, custom orthotics and insoles, footwear advice, and laser therapy for selected musculoskeletal conditions and fungal nails. Children, adults and older adults are all welcome, and home visit and aged care podiatry are available for people who cannot get in.

Feet, family & a research year

My interest in podiatry grew from seeing family members live with ongoing foot conditions, and understanding first-hand how much they can affect comfort, mobility and everyday life. I had always enjoyed helping people and wanted a career where that made a real difference, which led me to podiatry.

At Western Sydney University I completed a Bachelor of Podiatric Medicine with Honours, with a research project on soft tissue changes in the diabetic foot and their role in long-term complications. Seven years of practice since have covered general foot care, musculoskeletal and biomechanical conditions, orthotic therapy, ingrown toenail management, diabetic foot care and injury management, and I keep adding to that through ongoing professional development.

Along the way I volunteered overseas, providing podiatry care in under-resourced communities. That experience strengthened my belief that good foot care should be accessible and centred on the person. Outside the clinic I keep active, spend time with family and follow sport, rugby league above all.

Listened to, then given options

I want every patient to feel listened to, comfortable and confident in their care. So the first appointment takes the time to understand your concerns, your lifestyle and your goals, and to explain what may be contributing to the problem before any treatment is suggested.

There is no single approach to podiatry that suits everyone, so you get practical options tailored to your condition, your footwear and what you actually do all day. Bring the shoes you wear most, including work or exercise shoes if they are relevant. Footwear tells me a lot about how you move and what may be adding to your symptoms.

“Bring along the shoes you wear most often. Footwear says a lot about how you move and what may be contributing to your symptoms.”

Questions patients ask

The shoes you wear most, including work or exercise shoes if they relate to the problem, plus any referral, Medicare or DVA details. Footwear gives me useful information about how you move.

Yes to all three. Your GP’s care plan (EPC) referral, DVA cards and self or plan-managed NDIS funding are all accepted at AMS Podiatry, and private health extras rebates apply to podiatry visits.

Conservative care comes first. When a nail keeps growing in, minor nail surgery is performed in the clinic, and the options and aftercare are explained before anything is decided.

It depends on your risk category, which is what a diabetic foot assessment establishes. Ask your GP about a care plan referral, and ongoing care is scheduled from there.

Yes. Aged care and home visit podiatry are available for people who cannot get to Castle Hill.
