Dr Mayraj Syed-Zaidi

Chiropractor · Wellbeing Chiropractic Blacktown

I’m Dr Mayraj Syed-Zaidi, chiropractor at our Blacktown clinic, consulting in English, Urdu or Hindi. Macquarie University trained me through the Bachelor of Chiropractic Sciences and Master of Clinical Chiropractic, and by the end of those clinical years pregnancy and women’s health had become the work I cared about most, an area where care has to be genuinely adaptable and where patients are too often left wondering what is appropriate for them. The training since maps that commitment: Thompson technique certification, Women’s Fertility and Pregnancy Care Essentials, and Atlas Orthogonal for precise, instrument-assisted upper neck work, with paediatric care completing the family picture.

What walks into Flushcombe Road each week

Thirty weeks, & the Westpoint car park feels long

Pelvic girdle and lower back pain that started as a twinge and now decides how you get out of the car. Care here is adapted to your stage, with positioning and low-force options that keep you comfortable on the table.

The commute that outlasts the workday

An hour into the city, a desk all day, an hour home. Necks and lower backs around Blacktown carry that pattern for years before they complain loudly enough to book.

You’d like your baby checked, gently

Parents often bring their little ones in with questions. Infant assessment is very light-touch, everything is explained as it happens, and anything outside my scope goes straight to your GP or paediatrician.

Not everything I see is pregnancy-related. Blacktown hands me commuters’ backs, desk-bound necks and weekend sporting niggles like anywhere else, and they all get the same assessment-first care. Where my extra training earns its keep is the pregnancy and postpartum work. Ligaments soften, your centre of gravity drifts, and the load through your pelvis keeps changing right up until the birth, then the fourth trimester swaps one set of demands for another. Plenty of women around Blacktown are told all this is the price of having a baby. I don’t accept that. Discomfort this common still deserves a proper assessment, and care matched to the stage your body is actually at.

Macquarie training, Blacktown practice

I took my Bachelor of Chiropractic Sciences at Macquarie University, then stayed on for the Master of Clinical Chiropractic. By the end of those clinical years, pregnancy and women’s health had become the work I cared about most. It’s an area where care has to be genuinely adaptable, and where patients are too often left wondering about what’s appropriate for them.

I’ve kept training since. I hold a certification in the Thompson technique, I’ve completed Women’s Fertility and Pregnancy Care Essentials, and I’ve trained in Atlas Orthogonal, a precise, instrument-assisted approach to the upper neck. I’m a member of Chiropractic Australia. The point of all that study is options. A technique that suits the first trimester can be the wrong choice by the third, and I want more than one way to work.

You’ll find me at our Blacktown clinic on Flushcombe Rd. I consult in English, Urdu and Hindi, and some of the best consults drift between all three, because people describe pain far more precisely in the language they think in. Blacktown is full of young families, and my week reflects that: mums at every stage of pregnancy and recovery, and the babies and children who arrive with them.

How a first appointment runs

First appointments start with a conversation, not a table. I want to know what’s going on, what you’ve already tried, and what your body actually has to manage in a normal week, because a care plan for someone chasing a toddler around Bungarribee looks nothing like one for someone on the 6:40 train from Blacktown station.

From there I assess how you’re moving, not merely where it hurts, and I explain what I find in plain terms before anything else happens. Treatment is matched to you rather than the other way around. I work with Diversified adjusting, the Activator instrument and the Thompson drop-table, and with pregnant patients I lean toward the gentler end of that range, with positioning adjusted for your stage. I also put real time into explaining what your body is doing and why, because the hours between appointments matter more than the ones in them.

“My aim is to improve how your body works, not only quieten whichever symptom brought you in.”

How I work in the treatment room

Diversified

Hands-on manual adjusting, the core method of my training. I use it where it suits the presentation, and I always talk you through it first.

Activator Methods

A small the instrument option: quick, quiet and light enough for late pregnancy. It gives, measured impulse. Useful when a gentler option is the right call, including through pregnancy.

Thompson technique

A drop-piece table that does part of the work, so less force goes through you. I hold a certification in this method and reach for it often with pregnant patients.

Atlas Orthogonal

A precise, instrument-assisted approach focused on the top of the neck. I’ve completed training in it, and it’s built around accuracy rather than force.

Questions patients ask

Of course. I consult in English, Urdu and Hindi, and it’s fine to mix mid-sentence. When you can describe the problem in the language you actually think in, my assessment gets better.

Yes. The Blacktown clinic has HICAPS for all major funds, so if your extras cover includes chiropractic you can claim on the spot and only pay the gap.

It’s the centre of how I work. I’ve completed Women’s Fertility and Pregnancy Care Essentials, and care shifts with every stage: different positioning, lower-force methods like the Activator and the Thompson drop-table, and a slower pace where your body asks for it. If something needs your GP or obstetric team’s attention first, I’ll say so plainly.

Yes, paediatric care is one of my special interest areas. Assessment of an infant is extremely light, closer to the pressure you’d use to test a ripe tomato than anything you’d picture as an adjustment, and I talk you through every step. Anything outside my scope goes to your GP or paediatrician, with my notes attached.

No, you can book directly for private appointments. Bring any scans or reports you already have, and if you’re under a GP, obstetrician or midwife for pregnancy care, I’m glad to work alongside them.
