From a village midwife’s house to a Melton clinic
I was welcomed into the world at home by my great-aunt, the village midwife, a practitioner recognised by Malaysia’s Rural Health department, and I watched some of my siblings arrive the same way. My great-uncle was a well-known masseur. Growing up among traditional healers planted an interest that waited a long time for its turn.
First came a Bachelor of Computer Science and more than thirty years as a systems analyst and programmer. I studied overseas from the age of seventeen, returned to Malaysia, then migrated to Australia with my whole family and have lived in Melton since 2003. In time I went back to study, completing a Graduate Diploma in Professional Development and a Bachelor of Health Science in Acupuncture, and I have practised acupuncture and Chinese medicine since 2018. My father taught Bahasa Malaysia at a Chinese vernacular school, so I grew up in a very multicultural community, and I love that Melbourne feels like the same kind of melting pot.
I have many children and four grandchildren. I have taken part in fun runs and parkrun since 2010, though Saturdays are now working days, so if you want to find me outside the clinic, join Tai Chi at Arnolds Creek on a Tuesday night.
