Dr Paul Yoomin Jin

Chiropractor · Wellbeing Chiropractic Carlton & Richmond

I’m Dr Paul Yoomin Jin, chiropractor across our Carlton and Richmond clinics, consulting in English, Chinese or Korean. Sport is where my interest in the body started, training, recovering, watching what happened when load went up too fast, and that pull toward natural health became a career at the New Zealand College of Chiropractic. Gonstead work won me over there because the system asks you to earn every adjustment through assessment, and Elevate paediatric training has since widened who my gentle, precise style suits. Every adjustment here gets earned through assessment and explained before it happens.

Common presentations at my Carlton & Richmond rooms

The run along the Yarra that got longer

You’ve been stretching your weekend run out along the Capital City Trail, and your lower back now flags every increase a day or two later. Rest settles it. Running restarts it. That pattern is worth assessing properly rather than resting on repeat.

The question about the kids

Parents often book for their own back and then ask about a child on the way out. I’ve done Elevate paediatric training, so children can be assessed in their own right, with low-force techniques modified for their age and size, and clear advice if a GP is the better first stop.

Describing pain in your first language

Around Carlton especially, plenty of people can explain a symptom far more precisely in Chinese or Korean than in English. My consultations run in either, so the assessment starts from what you actually feel, not a rough translation of it.

In every case the useful work happens before anyone gets adjusted. Gonstead assessment means going through the spine segment by segment, by hand, to find the level that’s actually driving the problem, because that answer decides what kind of adjustment follows and how much force it needs. It also keeps care accountable. If what I find looks like a job for your GP or another practitioner, that’s the recommendation you’ll get.

Sport first, then chiropractic

Sport is where my interest in the body started. Training, recovering, watching what happened when load went up too fast, all of it made me want to understand how the body copes and repairs. That pull toward natural health eventually became a career decision, and chiropractic was the obvious fit.

I completed my Bachelor of Chiropractic at the New Zealand College of Chiropractic, graduating in 2023. It was there that Gonstead work won me over. The system asks you to earn every adjustment through assessment, and that suited how I think. Since then I’ve completed Elevate paediatric training, which lets me assess and care for children with properly modified, low-force techniques.

Now I practise across our Carlton and Richmond clinics and I’m a member of the Australian Chiropractors Association. I also consult in Chinese and Korean, which matters in a suburb like Carlton where many people would rather explain a symptom in the language they think in. The philosophy underneath it all is vitalistic: the body has a real capacity to heal, and my role is to support that capacity gently, not to force it.

Your first visit with me

First visits start with a conversation, not a table. I want the history, what makes it better or worse, what you’ve already tried, and what you actually need your body to do each week. Then comes a Gonstead-style assessment: hands-on palpation of the spine, both still and in motion, to narrow the problem down to a specific level rather than a general region.

If adjusting is appropriate, the techniques I use are gentle and manual, and I’ll explain each step before it happens. My aim is to help relieve pain and improve how you move, while supporting the body’s own capacity to heal rather than overriding it. Plans are personalised, and we review progress as we go so care reflects how you’re actually responding.

“The body has its own capacity to heal. My job is to support that, gently, then get out of the way.”

How I work in the treatment room

Gonstead technique

A system built on specificity. Detailed hands-on assessment of the spine, still and in motion, to locate the exact segment involved, then a precise manual adjustment to that level and nothing else.

Gentle manual adjusting

Adjustments matched to the person in front of me. A careful assessment means an adjustment needs less force, which keeps care comfortable for people who feel nervous about being adjusted.

Paediatric care, Elevate trained

I’ve completed Elevate paediatric training. Techniques for children are always low force, modified for age and size, and explained to parents before anything happens.

Questions patients ask

Yes. I consult in English, Chinese and Korean. Describing a symptom accurately is half the assessment, so use whichever language you think in and nothing will get lost on the way.

It’s a chiropractic system built around specificity. Rather than adjusting a general region, I assess the spine by hand at each visit, narrow the problem to a particular segment, and deliver a precise manual adjustment to that level. The better the assessment, the gentler the adjustment can be.

Both the Carlton and Richmond clinics have HICAPS and process all major health funds, though the rebate you receive depends on the extras cover in your policy. Bring your fund card and we’ll sort the claim at reception.

I do. I’ve completed Elevate paediatric training, and care for children looks different from adult care: much lower force, techniques modified for age and size, and everything explained to the parent before it happens. If a child’s presentation belongs with a GP or paediatrician first, I’ll say so.

No. You can book directly with either clinic for a standard private appointment. If your GP has given you paperwork about your history or imaging, bring it along, it all helps the first assessment.
