Gentil Kubwimana

Gentle Steps Podiatry·Podiatrist

I’m Gentil Kubwimana, an AHPRA registered podiatrist and the founder of Gentle Steps Podiatry, consulting from Wellbeing Chiropractic Melton on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I trained at La Trobe University, and the five years since have been split between private practice and community podiatry, including home visits to people who find travelling hard. Heel pain, foot and ankle injuries and diabetes foot checks make up much of my week, and I like to plan every step of care with you.

What brings people to the Melton clinic

Heel pain that lingers

Heel pain is one of my focus areas. A biomechanical assessment looks at how you stand and walk, and ultrasound imaging in the room can clarify what the tissue is doing before we plan treatment.

Foot & ankle injuries

Fractures, turf toe, tendinopathies and bursitis all pass through the clinic. Assessment first, then a staged plan that fits your work, your sport and your footwear.

Diabetes foot checks

Regular diabetes assessments check circulation, sensation and skin, and pick up small problems while they are still small. Medicare care plan referrals are accepted.

Routine skin and nail care sits alongside all of that: thick or fungal toenails, callus, corns and warts, plus ingrown toenail surgery when conservative care is not enough. Children, adults, NDIS participants and aged care residents are all welcome, and for anyone who finds travel difficult, Gentle Steps also offers home visits across the Melton area.

From community podiatry to a clinic of my own

I studied at La Trobe University, finishing a Bachelor of Applied Science and a Master of Podiatric Practice, then split my early years between private practice and community settings. Community work taught me that many of the people who most need podiatry are the least able to get to a clinic, which is why Gentle Steps Podiatry began with home visits to private homes, retirement villages and aged care facilities before adding clinic days at Melton.

Since qualifying I have added certificates in Ultrasound for Podiatrists and in Foot and Ankle Prolotherapy. I am currently working towards endorsement to prescribe scheduled medicines in podiatry, while working closely with a surgical podiatrist.

Away from work I keep active, spend time outdoors and enjoy a good mind-bending film. I also have a self-confessed obsession with shoes, so bring yours along and expect questions.

Step by step, & you set the goals

My first job is to understand what you want your feet to do: keep walking the dog, get back to football, or stay steady at home. Then we plan the steps to get there together, and I explain what I find in plain language as we go.

Plans are tailored and evidence-based. That might mean orthotic therapy after a biomechanical assessment, a course of care for a tendon, or a routine skin and nail schedule. I communicate promptly between visits, and once the serious business is done there is usually room for a laugh.

“Together we will work out what your feet need, step by step, with a plan built around your goals.”
