Dr Jessica Stenhouse

Chiropractor · Wellbeing Chiropractic Wyndham Vale

I’m Dr Jessica Stenhouse, an AHPRA registered chiropractor at our Wyndham Vale clinic and an RMIT double-degree alumna practising with the Australian Chiropractors Association. My special interests are pregnancy care and sports presentations, which between them cover a surprising amount of what a young, growing suburb brings through the door. Maybe something hurts, maybe you have stiffened up, or maybe your body is not coping with the week the way it used to. We start with a proper history and examination, I explain what I find without the jargon, and you leave that first visit knowing what is driving it and what the plan is.

The presentations I see most often in Wyndham Vale

Stiff by Friday, every week

The freeway there, the desk all day, the freeway back. Low backs around Wyndham Vale spend a lot of hours in one position, and by Thursday the week starts to show in how you move.

Saturday’s game, Monday’s stiffness

You got through club footy or netball fine, then seized up over the weekend. By Monday the hip or low back won’t cooperate. A niggle that behaves like this usually has a mechanical driver worth finding before the next game.

Twenty weeks & counting

The bump is growing, the pelvis and low back are working harder, and rolling over in bed has started to wake you. Pregnancy changes how your spine carries load almost week to week, and care needs to keep adjusting with it.

Most of what I see comes down to one question: how is this body coping with a load that has changed? Sometimes that load is a new training block or a weekend of sport. Sometimes it’s a desk week that never lets up, and sometimes it’s a pregnancy changing things month by month. Occasionally it’s something that needs a GP or imaging before I touch it. A careful assessment sorts out which one you are, and the plan follows from there.

Why I do this work

An RMIT alumna with a double degree, I practise at our Wyndham Vale clinic as a member of the Australian Chiropractors Association. My special interests are pregnancy care and sports presentations, which between them cover a surprising amount of what a young, growing suburb brings through the door. Ask me why I chose this profession and I’ll point to the moment a patient notices they’re moving differently. People often arrive assuming their current level of pain or stiffness is the new normal. That first sign of change is the part of the job I’d never trade.

Your first visit starts with listening

I believe good care starts with listening, so that’s where we begin. Before anything hands-on happens, I want to understand your goals and what a normal week asks of your body. Then comes a thorough movement assessment, because the spot that hurts and the factor driving it are often two different things.

From there we build a personalised care plan together. Treatment is hands-on, but I pair it with education and practical strategies you can use at home, since the aim is progress that holds between appointments rather than relief that fades in the car park. And if anything needs a GP’s eyes or imaging first, I’ll tell you plainly and help arrange it.

“The best part of this job is watching someone reach a version of themselves they didn’t realise was possible.”

How I work in the treatment room

Diversified

Careful hands-on adjusting, paced to your presentation and your comfort.

Activator Method

A spring-loaded handheld instrument that delivers a light, measured impulse. One of my preferred low-force options, particularly during pregnancy.

Drop piece

Sections of the table give way slightly as the adjustment is delivered, which lets me use less force through the joint.

Spinal decompression

Gentle, traction-based care that aims to ease pressure through spinal segments and the structures around them.

Joint mobilisation

Slower, graded movement of a joint through its available range. Useful where a faster adjustment isn’t the right fit on the day.

Questions patients ask

Not automatically. My first step is an assessment to work out what’s aggravated and what’s driving it. From there we usually adjust your training load rather than defaulting to complete rest, and if the presentation needs imaging or a GP’s opinion, I’ll refer you on.

Yes. Wyndham Vale puts all major health insurance funds through our HICAPS terminal on the spot. If your extras cover includes chiropractic, the rebate goes through and you pay whatever gap is left. The amount depends on your level of cover, so it’s worth checking your policy.

No. Chiropractors are primary healthcare practitioners, so you can book directly with me. The exception is a Medicare chronic disease management plan, which is arranged through your GP first.

Yes, pregnancy care is one of my special interests. I adapt everything to the stage you’re at, leaning on low-force options like the Activator and drop-piece work, with positioning that stays comfortable as the bump grows. If anything needs your GP or midwife involved, I’ll flag it early.

Any recent imaging or reports you have, plus clothes you can move in. We’ll go through your history and a full assessment, and in most cases there’s time for treatment on the day if it’s appropriate.
