Dr Alysha Nguyen

Chiropractor · Wellbeing Chiropractic Hurstville & Camden

I’m Dr Alysha Nguyen, an AHPRA registered chiropractor splitting my week between our Hurstville clinic on Railway Parade and our Camden clinic on Argyle Street. My own sporting injuries introduced me to this profession, including the frustrating middle stage of recovery where the sharp pain has gone but nothing feels reliable yet, and I hold my consultations to the standard of the practitioner who explained mine properly. I took a Bachelor of Chiropractic Science through to a Master of Chiropractic at Macquarie University, and sports injury recovery, along with helping people trust their movement again, remains the heart of my work.

When the pain settles but the confidence doesn’t

The hamstring from Saturday sport

Six weeks after pulling up sore at winter sport in Camden, the limp is gone but the trust isn’t. You’re training at eighty percent because part of you is waiting for it to go again.

The back that flares every few months

Each episode settles in a week or two, so it never feels worth getting looked at. Meanwhile you’ve given up on the garden beds and you take the stairs at Hurstville station one at a time.

Getting ahead of the next one

You’ve finished rehab and you’re back at the gym or back on the netball court, and you want to stay there. Looking at movement and load now beats repeating the whole recovery next season.

These presentations walk into both clinics every week, and what links them is hesitation. Pain changes how you move, and the changed movement often outlasts the injury that caused it. So my starting point is a careful assessment of two things: what’s going on in the tissue, and the way you’ve started moving to protect it. Once that’s clear, treatment has a direction, and you get a clear picture of what we’re working towards and how we’ll know it’s helping.

The injuries came first

Chiropractic found me through my own sporting injuries. I’ve sat through the frustrating middle stage of recovery, where the sharp pain has gone but nothing feels reliable yet, and I remember how much difference it made when someone took the time to explain what was actually going on. That’s the standard I hold my own consultations to.

I studied at Macquarie University, taking a Bachelor of Chiropractic Science through to a Master of Chiropractic. Now I split my week between our Hurstville clinic on Railway Parade and our Camden clinic on Argyle Street. The mix keeps the work interesting. Southern Sydney and the Macarthur region produce very different caseloads.

What keeps me in it is the moment a patient stops guarding and starts moving like themselves again. I like getting to know people properly, understanding what a problem is actually costing them, and building care around that rather than around a template. For one patient that means a structured return to sport. For someone else it’s carrying the shopping upstairs without planning the trip. Having collected more than one sporting injury of my own, I also take prevention seriously, because the best recovery is the one you don’t have to repeat.

What a first appointment with me looks like

A first appointment begins with talk before treatment. It starts. I want the full story: what happened, what it’s stopping you from doing, and what you’re worried it might mean. Then comes a thorough physical assessment, explained in plain language as I go. I place a lot of weight on trust, and trust is built by listening properly and never doing anything before you understand why I’m suggesting it.

Treatment is matched to you rather than pulled from a routine. I work with Diversified, Activator and Gonstead techniques, which gives me both manual and low-force options depending on your presentation and your comfort. Your care plan also covers the in-between: the movement, load and habits that lower the chance of the same problem coming back. Prevention was half the reason I chose this profession, so it never gets left off the plan.

“I love helping people feel confident in their bodies again.”

How I work in the treatment room

Diversified

The manual adjusting approach chiropractic is known for. Hands-on and specific, and adaptable across different joints and presentations.

Activator

A handheld, spring-loaded instrument that delivers a small, precise impulse. A gentle option if you’d rather avoid manual adjusting, or where a lower-force approach suits your presentation.

Gonstead

A system built on detailed assessment before any adjustment is made, so treatment is directed at a specific segment rather than the general area.

Questions patients ask

Yes, this is one of my main interest areas. A niggle that lingers after an injury usually deserves a fresh assessment, because the original problem and the reason it’s still bothering you aren’t always the same thing. I’ll look at the area itself and at how you’re moving and loading it, then we’ll plan a graded return rather than a hunch.

Plenty of people are, especially at a first visit. Alongside manual techniques I use the Activator instrument, which is a low-force option, and I’ll always explain what I’m about to do before I do it. Nothing happens without your okay.

Both Hurstville and Camden have HICAPS terminals for all major funds, so if your extras cover includes chiropractic you can claim on the spot with the gap settled at reception. Bring your health fund card to your appointment.

No. Chiropractors are primary healthcare practitioners, so you can come straight to me. If your assessment suggests you’d be better looked after by another practitioner first, I’ll tell you that plainly and explain why.

I consult at Wellbeing Chiropractic Hurstville, at 578 Railway Parade, and at our Camden clinic at 165 Argyle Street. Book whichever is easier for you to reach.
