Dr Jun Young (Johnny) Ahn

Chiropractor · Wellbeing Chiropractic Frankston

I’m Dr Jun Young Ahn, though nearly everyone at our Frankston clinic calls me Johnny. I trained at RMIT in Melbourne, completing the double degree in health science and chiropractic with distinctions, and what keeps me in this profession is watching people change across a course of care, someone who arrives guarding every movement slowly starts trusting their back again. My special interests found me through my patients: headaches, low back pain, golfers chasing a freer swing, and parents whose bodies carry everyone else’s load. I refuse to treat symptoms in isolation, so expect your history, habits and goals to matter here.

When the quick fix stops holding

The swing that shortens on the back nine

A regular round somewhere on the Peninsula, and by the fourteenth the low back has tightened and the swing has shortened. Monday morning is worse. I look at how the hips, mid back and low back are sharing the rotation, because one stiff segment makes the others work overtime.

Baby on the hip, pram in the boot

Early parenthood is repetitive one-sided lifting on broken sleep. Low backs and necks take most of it, and headaches often follow. I keep care for parents practical, planned around feeds, naps and the school run rather than an ideal timetable nobody actually has.

The headache that climbs from the neck

Pressure that starts at the base of the skull and creeps up behind the eyes as the day goes on. Neck-driven headaches need to be told apart from other headache types before anyone adjusts anything, so with me the assessment always comes first.

Most of the recurring pain that walks into the Frankston clinic has been treated somewhere before. Rubbed, stretched, sometimes adjusted, and it settled for a fortnight before creeping back. When that happens, the treatment probably eased the symptom without touching the cause. My first job is an assessment thorough enough to explain why the problem keeps returning, because until we know that, every treatment is a coin toss.

From RMIT to Ferndale Drive

I’m Jun Young Ahn, though nearly everyone at the clinic calls me Johnny. I trained at RMIT University in Melbourne, finishing a double degree in 2022, a Bachelor of Health Science alongside a Bachelor of Applied Science (Chiropractic), and graduated with distinctions.

What drew me to chiropractic, and what keeps me in it, is watching people change across a course of care. Someone who arrives guarding every movement slowly starts trusting their back again. Seeing that happen firsthand is the best part of my week, and it’s the reason I refuse to treat symptoms in isolation. If the cause is still sitting there, the result won’t hold.

These days I practise at Wellbeing Chiropractic on Ferndale Drive in Frankston and hold membership with the Australian Chiropractors Association. The patient mix here suits me well. There are golfers from courses all over the Peninsula and parents doing the daily lift-and-carry, and headaches and low back pain fill out most of the rest of my week.

Cause first, adjustment second

Your first visit starts with a detailed history and a proper physical assessment. I’m looking for the driver of the problem rather than the sore spot alone, because the sore spot is often only the messenger. Once I have a working diagnosis, I’ll explain it in plain language and tell you what I think care should look like, including roughly how long it should take.

Treatment with me is mostly Diversified adjusting, hands-on and specific. Adjusting is the part of the job I love most, but every adjustment has to serve the plan. And if your presentation needs something chiropractic can’t provide, I’ll tell you early and help you find the right care.

“Everyone deserves to be healthy, and a Band-Aid over the symptom doesn’t get you there.”

How I work in the treatment room

Diversified adjusting

Precise, hands-on manual adjusting of the spine and pelvis. The foundation of most of my treatment plans, and the part of practice I enjoy most.

Care for golfers

Working out where a swing loses rotation and why, then planning care around your round schedule rather than against it.

Care for parents

Repetitive lifting, carrying and feeding postures load the spine unevenly. I plan treatment that accepts you can’t stop picking up your child.

Headache care

Careful assessment to work out whether the neck is driving your headaches, since neck-related headaches are managed differently from other types.

Low back pain

From sharp acute episodes to the persistent stiffness people learn to live around. Finding out why it recurs matters more to me than settling it for a week or two.

Questions patients ask

I assess how your spine and hips move through rotation and where you’re losing range, then treat what I find and give you specific work to do between rounds. I can’t promise extra distance off the tee, nobody can, but restoring the movement a swing depends on is exactly the kind of problem a chiropractic assessment is built for.

Mostly headaches with a neck component, the kind that start at the base of the skull and creep forward through the day. The first job is working out whether the neck is actually the driver, which the assessment is designed to answer. If your pattern points to something that needs a GP or further investigation, I’ll tell you directly.

Yes. We have HICAPS at the Frankston clinic and all major funds are accepted, so if your extras cover includes chiropractic you can claim on the spot leaving the gap to settle. Bring your card to your first visit.

No. Chiropractors are primary contact practitioners, so no GP visit is needed first. If you have imaging or reports from your GP or physio, bring them in, they help at a first assessment.

No. Every plan I write has a purpose and a review point. If we’re not seeing progress against what we set out to change, the plan changes, and that conversation happens openly rather than visit by visit.
