Dr Sean Tor

Principal Chiropractor · Wellbeing Chiropractic Narre Warren & Keysborough

I’m Dr Sean Tor, Principal Chiropractor at our Narre Warren and Keysborough clinics, and one of the few chiropractors in Melbourne able to run a full consultation in English or Khmer. I’ve been through a severe gym injury and disc bulge myself, so I know how frustrating and isolating it feels when your body stops cooperating, and that recovery still shapes my clinical focus: disc injuries, sciatica, lower back and neck pain, chronic headaches, migraines and posture-related issues. I don’t chase quick fixes. Care here starts with a thorough assessment to find the root cause, then a plan aimed at lasting change for every age, from young children to tradies, retirees and athletes.

Massage therapist first

Pain shrinks your week before it stops it

Headaches that book out the week

A Narre Warren parent whose headaches arrive midweek and hang around until Friday. The neck is stiff, the painkillers do less each month, and no one has properly assessed where it’s all coming from.

Years on the tools

A tradie from the growth corridor whose lower back speaks up loading the ute every morning. He doesn’t want to stop working, he wants a plan that keeps him on the tools, which is what the rehabilitation and prevention side of my work is for.

The walk that keeps getting shorter

A Keysborough retiree who used to do the full loop of the local park and now turns back early because a hip or lower back never quite settles. Chronic pain that’s only ever been rested often does better with assessment and a graded return to movement.

Most of what I see across Narre Warren and Keysborough sits in a familiar range: disc injuries and sciatica, neck and back pain, headaches and migraines, chronic pain that’s been worked around for years, and postures that have adapted to the job rather than the other way round. What strikes me is the waiting. People trim things out of their week and only book once the pain starts making the decisions for them. Coming in earlier usually means a shorter, simpler care plan, and a proper assessment tells us plainly whether chiropractic is the right tool for what’s going on. When it isn’t, I’ll tell you, and help you find the practitioner who is.

From Macquarie University to the south-east

I completed my chiropractic training at Macquarie University in Sydney, earning a Bachelor of Chiropractic Science and a Master of Chiropractic with Distinction. While there I took part in the Global Leadership Program and volunteered as a peer mentor, time well spent building the communication and patient-care skills I bring to every consultation, and the reason my rooms run warm and welcoming, with everyone cared for like family.

Before chiropractic I spent years working as a massage therapist. That hands-on experience taught me how muscles, joints and movement all connect, and I still draw on it every day: when I assess you, I’m not looking at one piece of the puzzle, I’m looking at the whole picture.

I’ve also completed formal training in Sacro Occipital Technique, a gentle, low-force option for patients who prefer a softer style. Everyone’s body is different and everyone’s pain tells a different story, so a range of techniques means the approach adapts to what works for you rather than one set routine. And Khmer-speaking families can do the entire visit, history, assessment and explanation, in their own language.

What a first visit with me looks like

A first visit with me starts with a thorough assessment, because treatment only makes sense once we understand the presentation. I take a proper history, watch how you move, and test what loads the symptoms and what settles them. Then I explain what I’ve found in plain language. I put real time into that part, because a plan you understand is a plan you’ll actually follow.

The care plan itself is built around your goals rather than a standard schedule. Depending on the assessment and what you’re comfortable with, that might mean Activator or SOT for low-force work, Diversified adjusting where a joint needs it, dry needling for stubborn muscle tension, and rehabilitation exercises so the gains hold between visits. Prevention gets built in early. I’d rather tweak a plan in week two than watch the same problem come back in six months.

“Nothing beats watching a patient stand taller, move freely again, and step back into work, family, sport and the things they love.”

How I work in the treatment room

Activator

An instrument that adjusts with a measured click rather than hands. It gives a precise, measured impulse. Low force, no twisting, and a good fit for patients who prefer a gentler style or are new to chiropractic care.

Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT)

A low-force method using padded blocks and your own body weight to work on pelvic and spinal mechanics. I hold a formal certification in SOT.

Diversified adjusting

The traditional hands-on approach at the centre of the profession, applied where assessment shows a joint isn’t moving the way it should.

Dry needling

Fine needles into tight muscle to reduce tension, used as an adjunct where muscle is driving the symptoms. I’m certified in dry needling.

Rehabilitation & prevention

Exercise built into the care plan so improvements hold between visits, with a preventative focus for injury-prone work and sport.

Questions patients ask

Yes. I consult in Khmer as well as English at both Narre Warren and Keysborough. You’re welcome to bring a family member along, but you won’t need them to translate. Tell the front desk when you book.

Both clinics have HICAPS, so if your extras cover includes chiropractic you can claim on the spot with all major funds. Bring your card and reception will process the rebate straight away, leaving only the gap to pay.

Headaches and migraines are one of my main clinical interests. Some headache types have a neck-related component, and a careful assessment helps work out whether that applies to you. If your presentation points to something chiropractic care isn’t suited to, I’ll say so and help you find the right practitioner.

You don’t need a referral. Chiropractors are primary healthcare practitioners, and you book in directly at Narre Warren or Keysborough. If you have scans, letters or notes from another clinician, bring them along. They all help the first assessment.

Plenty. Activator and SOT are both low-force techniques that don’t involve the quick movements people worry about. At your first visit we’ll talk through what you’re comfortable with, and the plan gets built around that.
