Dr Alistair Huett

Chiropractor · Wellbeing Chiropractic Boronia & Rosanna

I’m Dr Alistair Huett, an AHPRA registered chiropractor across our Boronia and Rosanna clinics. I came through a double chiropractic degree and the Australian Chiropractors Association, but my clinical instincts got their real sharpening as club trainer at Brandon Park Football Club, strapping ankles and making sideline calls while players limped off mid-game. Some people arrive to see me in real pain, others feel stiff or move badly, and a fair few want a body that works better than it currently does. The first visit runs the same way for all of them: history, examination, an explanation you can follow, then care matched to what we find.

First it’s sore. Then it starts making decisions for you.

The floor got further away

Lifting a toddler into the car seat is a small thing until your back makes it a negotiation. Plenty of parents come in with one goal: being physically able for their kids again.

The hills you’ve been avoiding

The 1000 Steps used to be your Sunday morning, or the Plenty River Trail your after-work reset, until a knee or lower back made downhills feel unreliable. Months later the shoes are still by the door.

The hamstring that’s outlasting the game

You got through Saturday, but the back of your leg has had an opinion ever since, and it’s getting louder at Tuesday training. Time as a club trainer taught me the difference an early assessment can make to the months that follow.

The mix around Boronia and Rosanna keeps me sharp. One appointment is a local footballer nursing a hamstring through the back half of the season. The next is a parent whose lower back has started dictating how they lift their toddler, or someone whose focus at work is being chipped away by pain they’ve stopped mentioning to anyone. Each of those needs a different plan, which is why nothing gets treated before it’s been properly assessed. Working out what’s actually driving the symptoms is the part that makes everything after it worth doing.

Two degrees & a footy club

I’m a double-degree chiropractic graduate and a member of the Australian Chiropractors Association. The formal training gave me the anatomy and the clinical reasoning. What it couldn’t give me was the sight of a player limping off on a Saturday afternoon, weighing up in real time whether to push on. That came from Brandon Park Football Club, where I worked as a club trainer. Strapping ankles and managing knocks on the sideline showed me how much can turn on whether an injury is handled well in its first fortnight. It’s a big part of why sports care is still a special interest of mine. These days I split my week between our Boronia and Rosanna clinics. The patients have changed, they’re not all wearing footy boots, but the question I’m trying to answer hasn’t: what does this person want to get back to, and what’s standing in the way?

How I work, starting with visit one

First visits begin with a proper history, and there’s one question I always get to: what has this stopped you doing? The answer changes the whole plan. Getting someone back to running twice a week is a different job from getting them comfortable on the floor with their kids, though the sore spot can look identical on the table. From there I assess how you move and how you tolerate load, explain my thinking in plain terms, and map out a care plan we both understand.

Treatment is matched to the person. Some people do well with hands-on Diversified adjusting. Others prefer the Activator instrument or SOT blocking, which are gentler, lower-force ways of working. I care less about which tool gets used than about the result, and we review that together as we go.

“People rarely ask me for an adjustment. They ask for something back, like the morning run or a workday that doesn’t end with a heat pack.”

How I work in the treatment room

Diversified

Manual, hands-on adjusting. Precise, and only used where the assessment supports it.

Activator

A handheld instrument that delivers a small, measured impulse. A useful option for people who want a lower-force alternative to manual adjusting.

Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT)

Gentle work using positioned padded blocks, letting your own body weight and breathing do much of the correcting. Comfortable, low-force and unhurried.

Sports chiropractic

Assessment and management of sport-related complaints, shaped by my time as trainer at Brandon Park Football Club. Load, movement and a sensible path back to playing.

Questions patients ask

All the major health insurance funds. Boronia and Rosanna both put claims through HICAPS on the day, so if your extras cover includes chiropractic you pay the gap only. Bring your fund card with you and the front desk handles the rest.

I start by assessing the injury against the demands of your sport, because a hamstring that has to sprint is under very different load from one that only has to jog. From there we build a graded plan back to training and playing. I won’t name a return date at the first visit, I’d rather test how you’re tracking and progress you as you prove ready.

A thorough history first, including what the pain has interrupted in your life, then a movement assessment. You’ll get my explanation in plain language and a care plan to match. If it’s appropriate, treatment usually starts the same day.

No. You can book straight into Boronia or Rosanna, since chiropractors are registered primary healthcare practitioners. And if your assessment points to something outside chiropractic care, expect me to say so and point you toward the right practitioner.

Yes. Alongside Diversified manual adjusting I use the Activator instrument and SOT, which are low-force techniques. Some people prefer them, some presentations call for them, and we’ll decide together. Nothing happens on the table that you’re not comfortable with.
