Dr Chung Hei (Colin) Chan

Chiropractor · Wellbeing Chiropractic Capalaba

I’m Dr Colin Chan, an AHPRA registered chiropractor at our Capalaba clinic. Chung Hei is the name on my registration, Colin is what everyone calls me, and goals are what I ask about first: not where it hurts, but what the pain has been stopping you from doing. My Bachelor of Chiropractic comes from the New Zealand College of Chiropractic in Auckland, my memberships sit on both sides of the Tasman, and my techniques run from Diversified and Gonstead to Activator and Webster for patients who are pregnant. Consultations run in English, Cantonese or Mandarin, always starting with a thorough assessment and an explanation that makes sense.

What Capalaba wants back

The gym goal on hold

You had a number in mind for the bar, then a back or shoulder vetoed it. Assessment finds the reason and rebuilds the runway back to load.

Bayside address, CBD desk

The Capalaba-to-Brisbane commute brackets eight desk hours with two seated ones. Necks and lower backs end up wearing the whole schedule.

Managing it isn’t fixing it

Stretching it, rubbing it, working around it. If a problem needs daily managing, it’s asking for a proper diagnosis instead.

Relieving pain matters, and it’s still only half the job. First visits here dig into what you want back, the lifting, the sport, the workday that doesn’t need countdown timers, then a thorough examination works out what’s standing in the way. You leave understanding your own body better than you arrived, holding a personalised plan aimed at lasting change, with a clear referral whenever your problem belongs somewhere else first.

The long way from Auckland to Capalaba

My Bachelor of Chiropractic comes from the New Zealand College of Chiropractic in Auckland, a program known for producing patient-centred practitioners, and I keep memberships on both sides of the Tasman: the New Zealand Chiropractors’ Association and the Australian Chiropractors Association. Crossing the Tasman brought me to the Redlands, and Capalaba is now home base.

My techniques run from Diversified and Gonstead where precision wants hands, to Activator where an instrument is kinder, to Webster technique for patients who are pregnant. Four options means the care bends to you, whether you want the reassurance of hands-on adjusting or something barely-there gentle.

Consulting in English, Cantonese and Mandarin lets me look after Brisbane families who’d rather sort out their health in the language of home. And the wins that keep me going are specific ones: the deadlift retaken, the kids lifted without bracing, the workday that ends without a heat pack.

Goals first, care second

First visits start with goals, then history, then a thorough physical examination, in English, Cantonese or Mandarin as suits. Findings get explained in words you can take home, because clarity beats compliance: people follow plans they understand.

Care plans map to your goals with checkpoints along the way, blending adjusting techniques with the movement and habit changes that make results hold. Where progress stalls, the plan changes, and where you’d be better served elsewhere, you’ll be told so and pointed in the right direction.

“Managing symptoms is a holding pattern. Goals give care a destination.”

Questions patients ask

Before anything about your spine, I’ll ask what you want back. The examination that follows is thorough, but the goals are what the whole care plan gets measured against.

Yes, from the first hello to the home advice. Explaining a diagnosis is delicate work, and it lands properly when it arrives in your own first language.

It is. Patients who are pregnant get care adapted to their stage, and where your midwife or obstetrician should be in the loop, I’ll say so at once.

Yes, claims from all the major funds go through at the Capalaba desk on your way out, and with chiropractic in your policy, the gap closes out the bill.

Against your goals, set on day one and checked at planned points. If the numbers and the function are moving, we continue. If they’re not, the plan changes rather than the excuses starting.
