Dr Guy Houston

Chiropractor · Wellbeing Chiropractic Caroline Springs

I’m Dr Guy Houston, an AHPRA registered chiropractor at our Caroline Springs clinic on Caroline Springs Boulevard. I hold RMIT’s double degree in health science and chiropractic, and if you asked me to sum up my practice in one line: my job is to increase your ability to do the things you love. Pain relief matters, but on its own it is a low bar, so I examine before I treat, explain things without the textbook language, and shape care around what you want back. Manual, Activator and drop-piece techniques carry the treatment, and specific exercises carry it home.

When your week starts shrinking

Thinking twice before lifting the kids

Getting a toddler out of the cot has turned into a planned manoeuvre, brace, breathe, lift. You’d like it to go back to being something you never had to think about.

The Lake Caroline loop, cut short

You used to walk the full circuit and now you turn back early, because somewhere past the halfway mark your lower back tightens and the hip starts to complain.

The social game on permanent pause

You told the team you’d be back in a few weeks once your back settled. That was months ago, and the recovery after each run around costs more than the game gives back.

None of these are dramatic injuries, and none of them need to be before they’re worth addressing. What they share is a gap between what your week asks of your body and what your body can currently give. My first job is a careful assessment: where movement has been lost, what loads set things off, and what you’ve stopped doing because of it. From there we build a care plan with a clear target, restoring enough function and capacity to get those things back on the list.

How I practise, in one line

I’m an RMIT alumnus with a double degree in health science and chiropractic. If you asked me to sum up how I practise in one line, it would be this: my job is to increase your ability to do the things you love. Pain relief matters, but on its own it’s a low bar. These days I practise at our Caroline Springs clinic on Caroline Springs Boulevard. Most people who book in with me have reached the point where something they care about has slipped out of reach. It’s rarely one dramatic moment. More often it’s a slow trade, doing a bit less each month until the thing is gone. The visits I remember are the follow-ups where someone tells me about a win. That genuinely makes my day, and I don’t think it will ever wear off. On the technical side, my main interest is the Syntropy adjusting technique, which shapes how I assess and deliver adjustments. I’m a member of Chiropractic Australia and registered with AHPRA, registration CHI0002313585, if you’d like to look me up before you book. I’d encourage it. You should be comfortable with whoever you’re trusting with your spine.

What I’m looking for at your first visit

I spend most of your first visit working out the why. I’ll start with a detailed history, then watch how you move, what provokes your symptoms, and what your normal week actually asks of your body. No two sore backs earn the same plan from me, because the weeks that produced them are never the same. The plan comes out of what we find, and it centres on what you need to restore function.

Adjusting is central to how I work, and Syntropy is the technique I use to guide it. The other half of the plan is about capacity. Settling a flare-up is a start, but the aim is to build your capacity for stress and load, so your body is better matched to the week you actually live.

“Pain starts most first visits. What you’ve stopped doing is what I aim the care at.”

How I work in the treatment room

Syntropy adjusting technique

My main technique interest and the framework behind how I assess and deliver adjustments. If you want to understand it before we start, ask, I’ll gladly talk you through it at your first visit.

Function-first assessment

I map how you’re moving against what your week demands of your body. The care plan comes from that picture, not from a set menu.

Capacity building

Restoring function is step one. Building enough capacity for stress and load that it holds up under a normal week is the part I care about most.

Questions patients ask

Plan for a longer appointment than usual. We cover your history, how you move, what sets your symptoms off, and what you want to get back to, because that last one shapes the plan more than anything else. If it’s appropriate, care usually begins the same visit.

It’s the adjusting approach I’ve made my main technique focus, and it guides how I assess and deliver adjustments. Rather than give you a technical lecture here, I’d say this: if you’re curious, ask me at your visit. I’m happy to explain each step as I go, and you’ll always know what I’m doing and why before I do it.

Capacity is what your body can handle before it complains: how far you can walk before something tightens, how much you can lift without paying for it the next day. Pain often shows up when your week demands more than your current capacity. So rather than only chasing the sore spot, I aim care at raising what you can handle.

If chiropractic is in your policy, yes. I’m covered by all the major health insurance funds and the clinic claims them on the spot through HICAPS, with the gap left to pay. Not sure what your policy includes? A quick call to your fund before you book sorts it.

Yes. Chiropractors are primary healthcare practitioners in Australia, so no referral is needed. If you have recent imaging or specialist reports, bring them along, they’re genuinely useful at the first assessment.
