Dr Hugh Hoffmann

Associate Chiropractor · Wellbeing Chiropractic Boronia

I’m Dr Hugh Hoffmann, associate chiropractor at our Boronia clinic and a competitive track-and-field athlete between shifts. Competing taught me what bodies feel like at their limits, the injuries I overcame taught me how recovery works from the inside, and my RMIT chiropractic double degree gave that experience its clinical spine. The other half of my story is closer to home: I watched my mother go through spinal surgery and its long recovery, and helping people restore their health before things reach that point has shaped my career since. My care runs on biomechanics, understand the machine before adjusting it, whether you are chasing a personal best or a pain-free commute.

The loads Boronia bodies carry

Training loads without a coach’s eye

Runners, jumpers and gym regulars often train harder than they recover. Biomechanical assessment spots the breakdown before it becomes the injury.

The foothills commute

Boronia’s trains and Burwood Highway crawl add seated hours to active lives. Hips and lower backs feel the contradiction first.

Bodies that used to bounce back

The recovery that took a weekend now takes a fortnight. That change has mechanical reasons, and they respond to structured care.

Everything I treat gets read through movement first: how you walk, lift, run and sit, and where the chain is asking one joint to do another’s job. That’s the athlete’s lens, and it works as well on desk workers as on sprinters. Assessment is thorough, the explanation is practical, and prevention gets built into every plan, because the injuries I couldn’t prevent are the ones that stay with me. Anything needing a GP’s attention is named at the first appointment.

Fast on the track, careful at the table

Track and field made me a chiropractor twice over. Competing taught me what bodies feel like at their limits, and the injuries I overcame, and watched teammates fight through, taught me how recovery actually works from the inside. My RMIT chiropractic double degree gave that experience its clinical spine.

The other half of my story is closer to home. I watched my mother go through spinal surgery and the long recovery after it, and the desire to help people restore their health before things reach that point has shaped my career ever since. Prevention isn’t a buzzword to me. It’s the whole reason I’m here.

Away from the clinic I compete regularly, stay involved with the Ringwood Athletic Club, and serve as co-chair of the Victorian Athletic League’s Young Members Committee. I’m a member of the ACA, the AICE Chiropractic Sports and Exercise group, and FICS, the international federation of sports chiropractic.

Biomechanics first, adjustment second

First visits assess you like an athlete regardless of whether you are one: history, movement screening, and a close look at the mechanics your week demands of you. You’ll get findings in plain terms, with the why behind every recommendation.

Care draws on Diversified, Thompson, Activator and Syntropy techniques, matched to your presentation, and always pairs the table work with load management and rehabilitation you control. The goal scales to you: a podium, a pain-free shift, or a body that bounces back the way it used to.

“I’ve been the injured athlete and I’ve watched a slow recovery up close at home. Prevention is personal here.”

Questions patients ask

They’re my people, I still compete in track and field myself. Expect assessment that understands training blocks, taper weeks and race calendars, and care that keeps you moving through a season rather than parking you.

Not at all. The same biomechanics that explain a hamstring strain explain a desk worker’s back, and most of my Boronia caseload is everyday bodies with everyday loads. The athlete’s lens sharpens the care either way.

Two things: my own athletic injuries, and watching my mother recover from spinal surgery. That second experience left me determined to help people address problems early and naturally, so fewer families watch a recovery like hers.

Yes, all major health insurance funds process right there while you rebook, and where chiropractic is part of your cover, the gap is your only expense.

A gentle, movement-oriented technique that works with your body’s own mechanics to restore easier motion. It sits alongside my adjusting tools, and the examination decides when it’s the right fit.
