Dr Jeremy Yeo

Chiropractor · Wellbeing Chiropractic Footscray & Mickleham

I’m Dr Jeremy Yeo, an AHPRA registered chiropractor across our Footscray and Mickleham clinics, consulting in English, Mandarin or Malay. My RMIT double degree paired chiropractic with health science, and the health science half shaped me as much as the adjusting did: before I commit to any technique or plan, I want a reason that would hold up if you asked me to explain it. You might be in pain, stiff, or working a body that will not keep pace with your week, and every case starts identically, a full history and careful examination, then a plan we agree on together.

Why does the same ache keep coming back?

The pain you’ve stopped mentioning

Back or neck pain that has been around so long you’ve reorganised your life around it. Chronic conditions need managing, not ignoring, and a clear plan beats another year of putting up with it.

The whole shift on your feet

Hospitality and retail around Footscray run on long standing shifts and repeated lifting. Hips and lower backs carry that load for months before they complain, and prevention work costs a lot less than time off.

The Mickleham move-in

A new house in a Mickleham estate means months of box lifting and flat-pack weekends, stacked on top of a long daily drive down the Hume. Your lower back gets no say in any of it until it stops cooperating.

Most of what I see at Footscray and Mickleham didn’t start with an accident. It built up: the same position held for months, the same load lifted the same way, until something gives. Settling the current episode is the first job, and it needs to be done properly. The second job is dealing with the pattern that produced the episode, and that’s the postural correction and prevention side of my work. It’s the same logic I bring to rehabilitation and to chronic conditions that have been around for years.

Where I trained & where I practise

My double degree is from RMIT, a Bachelor of Applied Science in Chiropractic alongside a Bachelor of Health Science. The health science half shaped how I think as much as the chiropractic half did. Before I commit to any technique or plan, I want a reason for it that would hold up if you asked me to explain it. My week runs between two very different parts of Melbourne. Footscray is market stalls and shift work. Mickleham is new estates and the long drive down the Hume. I speak Mandarin and Malay as well as English, which matters more in the inner west than people expect. Taking a pain history in someone’s first language usually gets me a better history, and a better history gets a better plan. On the technique side I use Diversified adjusting and hold certifications in SOT and Thompson, so I can scale the force of treatment to the person rather than the other way round. I’m a member of the Australian Chiropractors Association. My training is current, and I’d sooner check my thinking against the evidence than against habit.

How your first visit unfolds

A first visit with me starts with talking, not treating. I take a full history, then run a movement assessment: how you sit, stand, bend and carry load, and where things stop moving the way they should. If I believe chiropractic care will help, I’ll explain what I found in plain terms and lay out a care plan with you, including a realistic sense of visit numbers and what you’ll be doing at home between appointments.

My focus areas are postural correction, injury prevention, rehabilitation and the ongoing management of chronic conditions. In practice that means the adjustment is one part of the visit and the retraining is the other. Positions, habits and lifting setups get addressed too, because that’s usually where the problem was built in the first place.

“I care as much about preventing the next injury as I do about treating the current one.”

How I work in the treatment room

Diversified

Precise manual adjusting, and still the technique I reach for most where the examination backs it.

Thompson

A certification of mine. The table has drop-pieces that give way slightly with each adjustment, so less force travels through the joint itself.

SOT

Sacro Occipital Technique, my other certification. A low-force method using positioned wedges under the pelvis, useful when gentler care is the right call.

Questions patients ask

Yes. I consult in English, Mandarin and Malay. If it’s easier to describe your pain in Mandarin or Malay, do that, and I’ll make sure the explanation and the home program come back to you the same way. You’re also welcome to bring a family member along.

If your extras cover includes chiropractic, yes. Both clinics take all major health insurance funds and the rebate goes through HICAPS on the spot, so you only pay the gap. Rebate amounts vary between policies, so it’s worth checking your level of cover with your fund.

It can usually be improved, though not by being told to sit up straight. Posture responds to capacity and variety: building the strength to hold better positions and breaking up long static ones. I combine adjustments with specific exercises and changes to how you sit and lift. Progress is gradual and depends a lot on the work you do between visits.

Long-standing pain deserves a proper assessment, not a shrug. Many chronic conditions can’t be switched off, but plenty can be managed so they interfere less with work and sleep. I’ll be upfront after examining you. If I think chiropractic care can help, I’ll set clear goals we can measure against, and if you’d be better served by another practitioner, I’ll refer you on.

No. Chiropractic is a primary-contact profession in Australia, meaning you can book at Footscray or Mickleham without seeing a GP first. Bring along anything already on file, scans or specialist letters. Allow extra time for the first visit, because the history and movement assessment come before any treatment is considered.
