What is Shockwave Therapy?
In 1985 the first clinical treatment of a gallbladder stone with ESWL was performed in Munich/Germany. In today’s date, Shockwave therapy has been found to be an effective treatment modality for predominantly tendon injuries, muscle overload, Trigger points, sports injury and various other orthopaedic conditions.
In addition to providing immediate relief, it has also been found to be effective for promoting tendon repair by stimulating the growth of new blood vessels into the tissues, promoting growth factors, increasing cell proliferation, decreasing inflammation and mobilising stem cells.

Wellbeing shockwave Kellyville

How does it work?
Shockwave uses a pneumatically powered handpiece that generate radial shockwaves, which are then transmitted to the site of the injury through a conducting gel.
The treatment session uses 2000-3000 pulsed shockwaves into the affected area. Most patients will notice relief immediately after therapy, others can take up to 4- 5 sessions to achieve this.
The body’s natural healing process continues after the prescribed course of shockwave therapy. Part of the treatment plan will also include advice on how to manage your condition and rehabilitation to strengthen the area, which will minimise the risk of re-injury.

What conditions can Shockwave Therapy help with?

  • Iliotibial band overload
  • Piriformis syndrome
  • Locked cuboid
  • Tennis and Golfers elbow
  • Achilles Tendinopathy
  • Plantar Fasciitis and Heel Spurs
  • Hip – Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome
  • Shin Splints – Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome
  • Calcifying Tendinopathy of the Shoulder
