Dr Mikael Lindstedt

Chiropractor · Wellbeing Chiropractic Point Cook

I’m Dr Mikael Lindstedt, chiropractor at our Point Cook clinic, in practice for 34 years and qualified twice over: the Scand Chiropractic School in 1986, then RMIT’s Bachelor of Applied Science in Chiropractic in 1992 after moving to Melbourne. Studying the same profession in two different systems leaves you with strong fundamentals and a certain humility about how much there is to know. The through-line of those decades has been family care, from the youngest member of a household to the eldest, offering acute, maintenance and wellness care to each. You learn to explain plainly, adjust your methods to the body in front of you, and think in years of good function rather than quick fixes.

What brings Point Cook families in

Three generations, one family file

A dad whose back seized leaning over the cot, a teenager sore after Saturday sport, a grandmother determined to stay in her garden. I’ve always practised family care, so looking after several members of the same household is normal for me, each with their own assessment and their own plan.

The freeway run that adds up

A lot of Point Cook clocks serious hours behind the wheel. The freeway run to work, a full day at a desk, the drive home, and by Friday the neck and lower back are letting you know about it. When the same complaint flares every few months, there’s usually a pattern behind it worth examining properly.

Nothing hurts, exactly

A steady group of my patients book in without any injury. They’ve noticed stiffness creeping in, or they want support to keep moving well as the years go on. That’s the maintenance and wellness side of my practice, and it has been part of the work since I started.

The mix at the Dunnings Road clinic runs from backs that went overnight to complaints people have carried for a decade, plus a steady group who book with no injury at all because they want to keep moving well. The starting point doesn’t change: history and examination first, so that care rests on findings rather than assumption. What happens after that depends entirely on what the assessment shows.

Trained in Scandinavia, then again at RMIT

I qualified as a chiropractor twice. The first time was at the Scand Chiropractic School in 1986. Later I completed a Bachelor of Applied Science in Chiropractic at RMIT in Melbourne, graduating in 1992, and I’ve practised here since. Studying the same profession twice, in two different systems, leaves you with strong fundamentals and a certain humility about how much there is to know.

The through-line of those 34 years has been family care, from the youngest member of a household to the eldest. It changes how you practise. You learn to explain things in plain words, to adjust your methods to the body in front of you, and to think in terms of years of good function rather than a quick fix.

People sometimes ask why chiropractors are so focused on the spine. My answer is that it houses the spinal cord, the main line the brain uses to communicate with the rest of the body, and helping it move and function well is the whole point of the work. That reasoning sits behind the wellness and maintenance side of my practice as much as the acute side. I’m a member of Chiropractic Australia, and I still consult in Swedish whenever a patient prefers it.

Findings first, technique to match

A first visit opens with a conversation and a proper examination. I want to understand your history, how the problem behaves through your week and what you’re hoping to get back to, before any treatment happens. Then I explain what I’ve found in plain language and we agree on a plan together. Sometimes that means a short course of acute care. Sometimes a longer-term approach makes more sense.

The technique comes second, and it should. I work with Diversified and Gonstead adjusting when specific manual work is the right fit, and with the Activator instrument and pelvic blocks when a low-force approach suits better, which is often the case for children, older patients and anyone who’d rather avoid firmer adjusting. In family practice you can’t run one method across three generations and expect it to serve everyone equally, so I don’t.

“I see people with acute pain, chronic pain, and people who want to feel better, full stop.”

How I work in the treatment room

Diversified

The hands-on adjusting method the classic hands-on approach. Specific, controlled and adaptable across ages.

Gonstead

A detailed system of analysis and manual adjusting. It rewards patience in the assessment, which suits how I like to work.

Activator

An instrument-based option delivering a controlled pulse, useful across all ages. It gives a light, precise impulse. A good option when firmer manual adjusting isn’t the right fit.

Pelvic blocks

Padded wedges positioned under the pelvis while you lie comfortably, letting your own body weight do gentle work over a few minutes.

Questions patients ask

Ja, absolut. I speak Swedish and I’m happy to run the whole consultation in it, or drift between the two languages as we go. Say so when you book so it’s noted on your file.

The Point Cook clinic has HICAPS, so you can claim from all major funds on the spot as long as your extras cover includes chiropractic. The gap is yours to settle, and reception can help if you’re unsure what your policy covers.

Yes, that’s the practice I’ve built. Family care runs from the youngest member of a household to the eldest, and the technique changes to suit. Low-force methods like the Activator instrument and pelvic blocks are often the better fit at either end of the age range.

No referral is needed. Your first visit starts with your history and a full examination, then I explain what I’ve found in plain terms. We agree on a plan before treatment begins, and how long that plan runs depends on your presentation, not on a template.

By assessment, age and your comfort, not by habit. I work with Diversified, Gonstead, the Activator and pelvic blocks, which gives me room to match the method to the person on the table. If something doesn’t suit you, tell me and we’ll change tack.
